Description

The TES Lab represents one of the five European centres fully equipped for conducting experimental activities in the hydraulic machines, showcasing its excellence in the field. The lab has state-of-the-art Francis, Kaplan and Pelton turbine test rigs and a pump test rig to conduct research activities in the hydropower field (optimal design and performance of hydraulic machines). The TES Lab can be adapted for innovative experimental campaigns on the hybrid storage system (hydropower and other storage systems to be provided by the user), and on the effects of transient behaviour on pumped-hydropower components.

It represents a key infrastructure for the development and optimisation of design and operation strategies, and for studying on off-design and flow field instabilities. Technical support will be provided by the Department of Industrial Engineering (DII) for the commissioning of the research infrastructure. Facilities set-up will be under the responsibility of the DII which will provide turnkey services. Training activities will be available to ensure a safe and fruitful use of the test rigs.
