Description

At ITC-CNR laboratory, the thermal, energy and environmental performance of building components and HVAC systems are investigated. Furthermore, sustainable energy supply and renewable energy source (RES) solutions are studied to achieve a zero-energy status through tests and experiments in dedicated facilities. Among the facilities available in ITC, the I-ZEB laboratory and the DEC building are proposed, two fully monitored buildings where it is possible to evaluate the performance of advance systems (envelope. HVAC and RES) in operating conditions and their effect on the building consumption and users’ comfort. In particular, the I-ZEB laboratory is a fully-monitored building designed according to the zero energy concept and equipped with a pervasive monitoring system.

The HVAC consists of an air-to-water heat pump. The building is connected to the electricity network and 3kWp photovoltaic system with lithium batteries powering the building. The overall system is controlled with a building management system integrating advanced optimisation algorithms. The laboratory allows to investigate the impact of a technology on the overall performance of the building.  The DEC laboratory is a three-stories building, South and North facing, where it is possible to test the performance of advanced active and passive facades, such as a BiPV system or nature-based solutions, and their impact on the indoor conditions and energy consumption. The building is equipped with a dedicated monitoring system designed for each experiment.

If you are interested in testing the performance of active or passive building components, or building management systems or the impact of your technology on users, don't hesitate to reach out to benefit from transnational access through RISEnergy.

Testing Capabilities

Testing capabilities include energy and thermal performance of active and passive envelope solutions and HVAC system, impact of the technologies on the energy balance of a building and users' comfort.

Technical Equipment

The monitoring system of the facilities consists of sensors for the evaluation of the indoor environmental quality (thermal, visual, acoustic and air quality), energy meters and sensors for the evaluation of HVAC systems and RES, hardware and software for the modelling and simulation, and IR imagine camera.
