RISEnergy joined international researchers and energy experts in Palermo for the 2nd International Congress on Sustainable Energy and Related Technologies (ICSET 2026), contributing to discussions on the role of research infrastructures in supporting Europe’s energy transition.
CSET 2026 brought together more than 240 scientists and experts from 21 countries and four continents to exchange knowledge and expertise on sustainable energy technologies and solutions.
RISEnergy colleagues led two dedicated sessions during the conference. The first, “Research Infrastructure networks in Europe: best practices, challenges and barriers: the experience of the RISEnergy ecosystem”, focused on experiences and ongoing challenges across European research infrastructures, including access, interoperability, research and technology gaps, data and metadata standardisation and the exchange of best practices.
The second session, “From Idea to Impact: How RISEnergy Research Infrastructures and Services Foster Innovation”, presented how RISEnergy’s ecosystem of more than 80 research infrastructures, together with its Transnational Access and Innovation Services, can provide researchers and innovators with access to experimental facilities, specialised expertise, digital tools and testing environments.
Both sessions generated questions and exchanges with participants, providing an opportunity to share RISEnergy’s work, learn from experiences across the research community and raise awareness of the opportunities available through the project.
RISEnergy’s contribution also reached beyond the conference. Italian newspaper Gazzetta del Sud covered the discussions at ICSET 2026, including Gabriele Gaffuri’s input on RISEnergy’s work on European research infrastructures. The article highlighted the project’s efforts to exchange best practices between infrastructures and facilitate access for external researchers to specialised facilities and technologies.
Participation in ICSET 2026 offered RISEnergy another opportunity to connect with the wider energy research community and share its work towards a more coordinated and accessible European research infrastructure ecosystem.
