Description
Helmholtz Institute Ulm (HIU) is a highly integrated research unit that provides excellent experience in the battery research field, including battery active and inactive materials, cell components, and the assembly of coin cells and pouch cells. It offers multi-purpose operando and in/ex situ characterisation techniques for battery materials and lab-scale cells.
HIU offers one of the most comprehensive research platforms for electrochemical energy storage devices, including (accelerated and semi-automated) materials synthesis and characterization, electrode preparation (up to a pre-pilot-line level), cell assembly and testing, as well as a great variety of advanced in/ex situ and operando characterization techniques.
Testing Capabilities
The installation can be used for well-defined experiments using the existing equipment (see below), following a discussion with the HIU scientists.
Technical Equipment
HIU offers a very comprehensive research platform for electrochemical energy storage devices, including both (accelerated and semi-automated) materials synthesis and characterisation, electrode preparation (up to the pre-pilot-line level), cell assembly and testing, as well as a great variety of advanced in/ex situ and operando characterisation techniques (e.g., XRD, SEM, XPS, Raman and FTIR spectroscopy).
