Description

The Offshore Basin (OB) offers a number of unique possibilities for the modelling of current, waves and wind. The basin measures 46 m x 36 m and has a movable floor, which is used to adjust the water depth. The maximum water depth measures 10 m at model scale. The basin also has a deep pit, with a maximum depth of 30 m. The current generation system consists of six separate layers, each equipped with its own pump. A current can be generated over the full depth of 10 m. The water is re-circulated through a system of channels outside the basin, in order to avoid re-circulation in the basin itself. This current generation system enables the adjustment of vertical current profiles. Next to that a high quality wind generation system has been installed in the model basin, which makes the basin unique in the world.

Testing Capabilities

Besides model testing floating wind, the OB is also used to test floating photovoltaic (PV), floating storage and hydrogen plants and ocean energy.

Technical Equipment

Measurement equipment such as load measurement, wave height, motions and accelerations.
