Description

RWTH Aachen University presents a web-based simulation platform integrating existing tools for providing “simulation-as-a-service” to a broader audience. This platform is built upon JupyterHub, a widespread open-source tool for interactive computing.

Testing Capabilities

The following simulation studies can be performed using the virtual facilities provided by the RWTH's Vlab:

  • Load flow studies in large-scale power systems
  • Dynamic simulation studies (e.g., transient stability studies)
  • Integration of inverter-based generation in distribution grids
  • Implementation and comparison of different synchronous generator models

Technical Equipment

The RWTH's Vlab offers the open-source Real-time Simulator DPsim as a service. The simulator offers the following capabilities:

  • Jupyter interface
  • Real-time and offline simulation
  • Different solvers, including Power Flow (PF), EMT and Dynamic Phasors (DP)
  • Integration with input file formats such as CIM and Matpower
  • Co-simulation through the VILLASnode interface

The Vlab comes with a set of Jupyter examples.
