26 projects selected in fourth RISEnergy Transnational Access Call for funded access to research infrastructures

A total of 38 proposals were submitted to the fourth RISEnergy Transnational Access (TA) call, which focused on innovative solutions to improve energy systems and reduce the life-cycle cost of energy technologies, enabling the wider deployment of renewable energy. Following the evaluation process, 26 projects were selected for funding.

Congratulations to all successful applicants! The selected projects will receive fully funded access to leading European research infrastructures, within the available budget of €1,000,000, enabling advanced experimental research to support the development, optimisation and cost reduction of renewable energy technologies.

Call highlights

The fourth TA call attracted applications from 24 different countries, demonstrating RISEnergy’s growing international reach. While many proposals came from European countries such as Italy, Germany, France and Spain, the call also received 11 applications from outside Europe, including Asia, Africa and Latin America. This broad geographical participation highlights the increasing global visibility of the RISEnergy research infrastructure network.

With 26 of the 38 proposals selected, nearly 70% of applicants secured access to the research infrastructures, making this a successful Transnational Access call, with only 31% of applications not selected.

The strongest interest was seen in the areas of energy storage, smart grids, and concentrated solar power (CSP). Applications were submitted by a diverse range of organisations, including universities, public research organisations, and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), reflecting the collaborative nature of Europe’s renewable energy research landscape.

What happens next

With the selection process completed, RISEnergy now moves into the access implementation phase. The project team is currently supporting selected users by:

  • Providing model agreements for transnational access (TA)
  • Facilitating communication between users and research infrastructure (RI) providers
  • Clarifying logistical, administrative and technical aspects of access preparation

As research activities begin, RISEnergy will share updates on project progress, early findings and user experiences — showcasing how cutting-edge infrastructures are enabling innovation across renewable energy technologies.
