Webinar: Exploring sustainability assessment with HELDA Web Studio.

On 8 June 2026, RISEnergy hosted the webinar “Introduction to HELDA Web Studio”, organised within Task 3.4 – Decision Making for Sustainability and Sociotechnical Aspects. The session introduced HELDA Web Studio, a web-based decision-support tool developed by KIT for the comparative sustainability assessment of energy technologies.

The webinar opened with a brief introduction to sustainability assessment using a theoretical case study on mechanical energy storage technologies. Participants were then guided through the main functionalities of HELDA Web Studio, including how pre-defined datasets, evaluation criteria and performance scores can be used to compare different technology alternatives.

HELDA Web Studio applies multi-criteria decision analysis (MCDA) to support comparative sustainability assessments. The tool also includes sensitivity analysis, allowing users to explore how changes in criteria weighting and technology performance can influence assessment results.

During the webinar, participants learned how to apply HELDA Web Studio for the sustainability assessment of energy technologies. It gave participants the opportunity to explore HELDA Web Studio in practice and prepare for its use in sustainability assessment. The feedback collected will support the further development and finalisation of the tool.
