TNO-SBT-GAS

TNO-SBT-GAS Laboratory

TA77TNO-SBT-GAS

Location

Westerduinweg 3

1755 ZG Petten,  Netherlands

Description

The TNO-SBT-GAS lab consists of gasification, dust removal, tar removal and water quench units.  The indirect gasifier is a reactor for allothermal gasification of approximately 4 kg/h biomass or waste at temperatures from about 700°C to 900°C. Due to the decoupling between the gasification and the combustion stages, a product gas nearly N2-free can be generated. Steam, N2 and air are commonly used as carrier gas. There is the possibility to use H2 or CO2 as well, if agreed beforehand. Downstream the gasifier, the dust can be removed as well as the tars, leading to a product gas with low tar content. Afterwards a water quench is available if necessary for the downstream application.

Testing Capabilities

The TNO-SBT-GAS system can be used to investigate the gasification behaviour of feedstocks at different temperatures and/or with different bed materials. Tests of this kind require operator attendance and they are usually performed in test runs of up to 8 hours.

The system can also be operated and integrated with the downstream unit (TNO-SBT-SYNT) for the synthesis of the product gas. Visitors are invited to discuss options.

Technical Equipment

Standard gas analysis includes gas monitors for O2, H2, CO, CO2 and CH4. If required, a microGC can be connected to determine N2, Ar/O2, C2H2, C2H4, C2H6, C6H6, C7H8, H2S and COS. Additionally, gas analysis, as well as ICP or SEM analysis of cyclone dust and bed material are possible, but have to be paid for separately. Among these options are collection and analysis of tar guideline and SPA samples, GC-FPD analysis for sulphur components, GC-TCD analysis of C2-C6 components, collection and analysis of wet chemical samples for NH3, HCN and HCl. Visitors are invited to discuss options to couple their specific analysis equipment.
