Description
The POLYRES Infrastructure, located at the PROTEAS Facility, is devoted to research, development and testing of renewable energy sources with emphasis on concentrating solar power (CSP), coupled with other renewable technologies, such as photovoltaics (PVs) and wind power. The aim of this infrastructure is to advance the research on distributed energy systems (DES) and support the concept of the energy communities, while in parallel bridging the gap between fundamental research and industrial needs.
Services offered by the infrastructure
Modelling of poly-generation systems and modelling, design and optimisation at technical system level:
- Detailed modelling, design and optimisation of energy systems including a variety of storage systems and a variety of energy inputs, using state of the art open-source tools
- Modelling and simulations using software like TRNSYS
Characterisation / Testing of micro-grid and micro-grid components and testing of new technologies and innovative concepts:
=
- A fully instrumented infrastructure that can be used for integration of new components like hybrid inverters, new batteries, new technologies related to CSP, PVs and wind.
- Testing of controlling and operating strategies of both on-grid, and off-grid systems
Controls, real-time monitoring, and signal processing related to micro-grids:
- Design, develop and integrate virtual interfaces to the main control system and database and data acquisition systems.
Testing Capabilities
The POLYRES Infrastructure at PROTEAS Facility focuses on CSP and other renewable technologies, offering services for detailed modelling, design, and optimisation of energy systems, testing of micro-grid components and new technologies, and real-time monitoring and control of micro-grids.
Technical Equipment
The POLYRES Infrastructure at PROTEAS includes detailed modelling tools (TRNSYS), instrumentation for micro-grid testing, and systems for real-time control and monitoring. It supports the integration and evaluation of hybrid inverters, new batteries, CSP, PVs, and wind technologies.
