CENER – Solar Energy Technologies and Storage Department’s Modelling Capacity
TA61 – CENER-SIMPV
Location
Av. Ciudad de la Innovación nº 7
31621 Sarrigurren, Spain

Description
This infrastructure includes a set of software codes for detailed analysis of the performance of the photovoltaic (PV) systems without restrictions on their configuration or composition, taking into account the specific characteristic of the location of interest.
- Synthetic long-term climatological timeseries of high-frequency data adjusted to the specific climatological and geographical characteristics of the location of interest. The synthetic datasets enable a realistic simulation of the performance of the technology by means of the simulated operating conditions over representative years or long-term periods.
- In-house raytracing code for the detailed estimation of the available solar resource. The ray-tracking enables the simulation with high precision of different type of surfaces and optical properties in a complex simultaneously to obtain the available resource in any kind of surface or arran
- In-house PV system simulation tool for high time resolution simulations. This tool is capable of simulating any configuration or composition using high time resolution data for PV systems or components.
If you are interested in studying the behaviour or performance of a PV system or one of its components in detail and with high precision, this CENER infrastructure will allow you to carry out your simulations.
Testing Capabilities
The facility provides climatological datasets and advanced simulation tools, including TONATIUH for ray-tracing solar resource estimation and SIMPV for detailed PV system performance, with support for high-resolution data and simulation of various system configurations.
Technical Equipment
The infrastructure offers climatological datasets (synthetic high-frequency timeseries and Typical/Plausible Years), TONATIUH for detailed solar resource estimation using ray-tracing, and SIMPV for comprehensive PV system performance simulations. Services include long-term climatological data, detailed solar radiation and environmental simulations, and PV system performance analysis.
